Question: What type of abnormal cells are in the blood film and what disease entity can it signify?

Answer: These are smudge cells which can be seen in chronic lymphocytic leukemia or CLL. The cells in CLL can rupture when blood film slide is being prepared due to fragility of the cells given “smudge” appearance.
