Question: What is this finding on gastroscopy called, and what is the cause?

Answer: This picture shows a classic ‘watermelon stomach’, seen most frequently in Gastric Antral Vascular Ectasia (GAVE). The red stripes represent ectatic blood vessels, and this can be a sign of upper GI bleeding (although uncommon). GAVE in itself is uncommon, but is commonly associated with systemic sclerosis and cirrhosis.
